For the 4th time, it’s over

One reader just commented that he/she figured that my bar exam must have been a 3-day one instead of a 2-day exam like Colorado because I hadn’t posted yet. He/she is correct. I just finished the bar exam, yet again. I want to cry and throw up. I really don’t think I did well enough to pass. It had nothing to do with my study methods though, so don’t freak out. I was tired and felt burned out. It didn’t help that Sarge and I aren’t sure if we’ll stay in this state permanently. We’ve been discussing moving back to Colorado or even Texas (where I used to live and where my family still lives). Don’t even ask me about the Texas bar exam. Anyway, this was my fourth bar exam in a row, so perhaps a break is long overdue. I got sleepy in the morning sessions but took naps between the morning and afternoon sessions so I felt better during the afternoon sessions. I also fell asleep around 7 pm last night and conked out until this morning.

It never gets easier each time I’ve taken the bar exam. I still feel nauseous and just bad after finishing. I remember when I took the CO bar for the very first time, I was excited and relieved when it was finally over. No more. I’ve tasted the bitter tang of failure and there’s no going back to that virgin bar exam, not even in another state. Either way, I will NOT be taking ANY bar exams this summer. I want to actually enjoy the summer for the first time in three years. Actually, considering I took summer classes all through law school, more like 5 years. Wow, that’s depressing.

Sorry if I sound pessimistic. The bar exam still sucks, even if you’ve already passed in another state. At least if I failed this one, I still have Colorado to fall back on, right? More later… but at least it’s over!!!

Slogging along

I’ve been working on mostly essays today as well as working through the MBE practice questions in the S&T book. I’m probably going to do the simulated MBE in the book later this week. I’m so sick of looking at MBE questions though. This is the first night I’ve been able to stay up really late to study thanks to my old friend Diet Mountain Dew. I tried to swear off caffeine this time around, but I ended up falling asleep early the last several nights, so I caved in and bought a 12-pack of Diet Dew. I’m usually a night owl anyway, and I seem to focus better at night than early in the morning.

I really wish this state would have scoresheets like Colorado does, but nooo I have to write analytical essays. So I have no idea how I will do essay-wise but I’ve been focusing on MBE a lot so hopefully it doesn’t blow up in my face.

I’m planning to do some more S&T MBE questions tomorrow as well as review my MBE and state essay topic outlines to refresh my memory. I really need to memorize the hearsay exceptions requiring unavailability, and the hearsay exceptions where unavailability isn’t required. I always forget which exceptions require the declarant to be unavailable. I need to make flashcards or something.

There is a God after all

So today I was plugging away at work, trying to finish as much as I could before my last day of work tomorrow when my bar exam leave was supposed to start. But then the overhead pipes in the hallway of my work building burst, dumping water everywhere. I had literally 2 minutes to get my stuff together and haul ass outta there before the water came pouring in. The building was completely flooded within minutes, so they sent everyone home and I was home by 2 pm. I just received word that work will be closed tomorrow as well, so my bar exam leave seems to have started early! I couldn’t have asked for better timing.

The happenings

1. Work is keeping me crazy busy. I’m so tired when I get home that it’s been difficult trying to force myself into study mode. I have to take a nap after work. Thank god I only have 5 more days of work, but I wish they wouldn’t keep giving me new assignments at this point.

2. I’m still swimming at least 2 times a week. So far so good. I plan to keep swimming during my 2 weeks of full-time studying but we’ll see. It might not be on my usual schedule but I will make the effort.

3. I’m downloading that desktop timer onto my laptop to remind me how much time is left until the bar. I need the motivation!
